Today, 6 September, at sunset we step into the thirteen-day period of Breathing Earth Energy. a very changeable, restless time. Just as our breath moves in and out, we may experience the pull of duality promoting changes all around us. Breathing energy brings new viewpoints that can “change like the wind”, so we must be sure that we run every thought through our hearts before making any decisions based upon some new information we may have heard.
The Maya called this energy “The Breath of Life” and viewed it as one of the most spiritual periods, but also potentially one of the most dangerous. Again, like the in-breath and the out-breath, there is a both a positive and a negative polarity present in this energetic period, and we must work to keep them in proper balance.
This is the energetic period most aligned with Air, which is related to the Western astrological Air sign of Aquarius that has been opening portals of new energy recently. But air can be nurturing as we breathe it in, or one of the most destructive forces on Earth when it culminates in a hurricane or tornado. Like a strong wind, Breathing Energy is unstable and may cause barriers or obstacles to be destroyed or dismantled, like the energy of the Indian goddess Kali, who destroys what has been in order to make room for something new. It is appropriate that some things be “blown away” like cobwebs of old beliefs in our minds or controlling structures that reduce our freedom. It is also appropriate that we allow new ideas and new ways of being in the world to waft into our lives like a delicate, ,cooling breeze on a hot summer day.
Appropriate use of Breathing Energy can make people unpredictable or fickle. Appropriate use of this energy helps us to harmonize multiple viewpoints. Remembering that all of us need air to breathe, and we must use both polarities of breathing to support life, I wish you a breath of wind that brings positive changes into your life.
